Introducing Nvidia's upcoming series of GPUs codenamed "Rubin"
Welcome to Issue #38 of One Minute AI, your daily AI news companion. This issue discusses Nvidia’s latest announcement.
Introducing Nvidia’s upcoming series of AI chips
Nvidia has recently announced their next-generation GPU architecture, codenamed Rubin, which is set to follow the current Blackwell architecture. Named after the pioneering astronomer Vera Rubin, the Rubin architecture focuses on AI and high-performance computing (HPC) applications. The initial GPUs under this architecture, specifically the R100, are expected to be produced in late 2025, with full systems available by the first half of 2026.
The Rubin architecture will be built using TSMC's N3 process node and incorporate HBM4 memory, aiming for significant improvements in power efficiency. This is particularly important as the demand for AI and HPC GPUs continues to grow, and managing the power consumption of data centers becomes increasingly challenging.
While the initial focus is on data center and AI applications, consumer versions of the Rubin GPUs, potentially the RTX 60 series, are anticipated to follow in late 2026 or 2027.
