Welcome to Issue #20 of One Minute AI, your daily AI news companion. This issue discusses a new update from Google DeepMind.
Google DeepMind’s AlphaFold software receives massive upgrade
Google DeepMind's revolutionary AI software AlphaFold, which can accurately predict the 3D structure of proteins, has received a major upgrade called AlphaFold 3. The new version can now model other important biological molecules like DNA and RNA, as well as the interactions between antibodies and disease molecules. This advancement, achieved partly by borrowing techniques from AI image generators, is a big step forward for drug discovery, according to DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis.
AlphaFold 3 uses a diffusion model algorithm to sharpen the molecular structures it generates, allowing it to model large molecules like DNA as well as smaller ones like metal ions. The software will be made available in the cloud for free to researchers, though the source code is not open source this time.
