MIT researchers develop Future You
MIT researchers have developed Future You, an AI system that allows users to interact with a simulated version of their future selves. This tool, aimed at reducing anxiety and fostering better decision-making, generates a conversation with a virtual future self based on user-provided data. The system helps users visualize potential life outcomes, thereby increasing their connection to their future selves, a concept known as "future self-continuity." Initial studies showed that users felt less anxious and more motivated after interacting with the simulation.
The AI model builds a realistic future self using details about the user's current life and aspirations. Unlike earlier methods for envisioning one's future, this tool is interactive and engaging. Users can discuss various aspects of their potential future, such as career achievements or personal challenges. The system also includes an age-progression image to enhance the experience. The researchers aim to further refine the tool for broader applications while ensuring users recognize it as one of many possible futures.
